Here are some useful tips and tricks on caring for your candle.
1. The first time you light your candles, it is best to ensure that you light your candle so that it melts all the way to the edge of the vessel. Depending on the sizse of the vessell, this will take between 2 to 4 hours. This will prevent the candle from tunnelling which can have an impact on how well your candle burns in the future.
2. Candle wicks need to be kept trimmed before each use. Keep your wick trimmed up to 4-5mm. Not trimming your wick can cause sooting and excess combustion. By keeping your wick trimmed your candle is more likely to evenly burn, keep the flame steady and prevent mushrooming and sooting. If you vessel becomes black around the edges, this can be easily wiped off, but you might consider trimming your wick next time. In our experience, if your wick has not been trimmed or if you burn your candle for too long, you may find the candle will start to have black soot around the inside of the vessel. Remember to also reposition your wick so that it doesn’t heat one side of the vessel more than the other. We have also found that helps to assisting the wax melt evenly.
3. Avoid burning your candle for any longer than between 3-4 hours at the maximum - depending on the vessell size.
4. Keep your candle free from any debris.
5. When extinguishing your candle, it is always best not to blow it out to avoid injury from hot wax. It is best to use a proper candle snuffer.
6. Do not move the candle when the wick is lit as this can be dangerous and may cause a fire or could result in injury or burn from the hot wax.
7. If you spill the wax, let it dry. Then use some paper towel and a gentle low heat iron to iron over the top which allows the wax to stick to the towel.
8. Candles are sensitive to temperature. Ensure you store your candle in cool dry place. Our candles also include a lid so that you can keep your candle free from other dust and debris when not in use.
9. Follow all directions and warning labels which are located on the bottom your candle vessel, or in the case of tealights, on the box.
10. Do not place the candle near a draft, open window or flammable surface and never leaving a burning candle unattended or in the presence of children.
11. Once your candle has burnt to the point where there is approximately 1-2cm of wax left in the vessel, it is time to discontinue use. Do NOT continue to use for safety reasons. Instead, its time to repuurchase more of our amazingly smelling candles.
